Blue Lagoon Iceland Geothermal Spa

The Blue Lagoon a unique geothermal spa is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland. The spa is located in a lava field in Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula, southwestern Iceland. The warm waters of the Lagoon are rich in minerals like silica and sulphur. It is believed that bathing in the Blue Lagoon is reputed to help people suffering from skin diseases.

It is a man made lagoon which is fed by the water of nearby geothermal power plant and is renewed every 2 days. Before it is fed in the lagoon the water undergoes different process. The heated water is required to pass through the turbine that generates electricity, then the steam and hot water passes through a heat exchanger. Then only the water is fed into the lagoon for recreational and medicinal users to bathe in.  The country has a strict code of hygiene and guests are required to shower before and after bathing.
