Gruner See or Green Lake is a lake in Styria, Austria. The lake is surrounded by the Hochschwab mountains and forests. The Lake is called "Green Lake" because of the green colored clean and clear water from the snowmelt of Karst mountains.
During winter season the lake is only 1 to 2 m deep and the surrounding area is used as a county park and during the spring when the snow melts, the basin of land below the mountains fills with water. The lake is most beautiful during the middle of May to June as it reaches its maximum depth.
The Green Lake is the home of large variety of faunas. The divers can observe green meadows in the edge zone of the lake, a bridge and a bench can also be found underwater.
