Blue Mountains of New South Wales Australia

The Blue Mountains is a mountainous region located in New South Wales, Australia. The Mountains are dissected plateau carved in sandstone bedrock. A large part of the Blue Mountains is listed in the World Heritage Site as the Greater Blue Mountains which consist of seven national park areas and a conservation reserve.

The mountain is named as Blue Mountain due to the blue tinge of the range that is viewed from a distance. The tinge is believed to be caused by mie scattering which occurs when incoming ultraviolet radiation is scattered by particles within the atmosphere creating a blue-grayish colour to any distant objects, including mountains and clouds. One of the main natural disasters of the area is bush fires and severe storms. The Greater Blue Mountain area has 400 varieties of animals, rare species of mammals. The Blue Mount is now famous as one of the popular tourist destinations in Australia with good food and accommodation facilities.
